Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Elias and Flora Disney, and he was one out of four boys and a girl. From an early age, his mother and brother encouraged him to pursue his interests of art, and photography. Throughout his school years, he kept up his interest in art especially in high school where he took drawing and photography classes while also taking art classes at the Chicago Art Institute. After a year of driving an ambulance in France for The Red Cross after high school, he moved back to Kansas City where his brother Roy got him a job at the Kansas City Film Ad Company and they both created laugh-o-grams. When Laugh-o-grams then went bankrupt in 1923, Roy and Walt moved out to Hollywood along with the cartoonist Ub Iwerks where the the three of them created the Walt Disney Brothers Studios. With starting this company, they created inventions and a legacy that will forevermore portray them as leaders in the world of animation and in the childhoods of everyone in America.
